Henry & Pop Camper Adventure: Day 4 ~ Driggs Idaho to GG’s House

Road Trip – Day 4: Driggs, Idaho to Richland, Washington

We were up early this morning at the Super 8 in Driggs. By 5:00 a.m. we were awake, and by 5:20 we were rolling north and west toward Washington.

Our first stop was on the outskirts of Pocatello, where we topped off the truck with fuel and grabbed a breakfast sandwich for Henry. Once back on the freeway, we covered some good miles before making a worthwhile stop at Malad Gorge State Park.

The Malad River Gorge is an incredible sight—a deep scar carved into the landscape by millions of years of water forcing its way through a narrow gap in the rock. We walked out onto the observation bridge to take it all in, and Henry captured some excellent photos and video of the gorge.

From there it was back in the truck. We continued through Boise and eventually crossed into Oregon. Another fuel stop came at Farewell Bend before we climbed a series of mountain passes toward Baker City. We stopped once more in La Grande for fuel and a couple of tacos before beginning the final leg of the day’s drive.

The route carried us past Meacham, over Cabbage Hill, and down the long descent of Rattlesnake Grade into Pendleton. Crossing the Columbia River into Washington was another milestone for Henry. He proudly photographed his fifth state welcome sign of the trip, adding another memory to his growing collection.

We arrived at GG’s house in Richland around 3:30 in the afternoon, grateful to finally stretch our legs after a full day on the road. Henry and I made a quick turnaround to get the camper plugged in and the air conditioner running before settling in for the evening. Tonight we’ll be sleeping here, making plans for dinner, and enjoying some time with Gigi before continuing our adventure tomorrow..
