Gamble Sands: Day 2 ~ Scarecrow with Austin, Jake and Shane

We were up at 6:00 this morning and started the day with a putting warm-up on the massive putting course alongside Shane and Austin. After getting packed up, we headed to the Barn for breakfast sandwiches and coffee before making our way to the practice range. Following a few final swings and some instructions from the starter, we teed off on Scarecrow at 8:45.

Our immediate impression was that Scarecrow possessed more dramatic architectural interest than Gamble Sands. As we worked our way through the course, nearly every hole felt memorable, with several standing out as truly spectacular. The holes perched high above the Columbia River and Brewster Valley offered views that seemed to stretch forever and provided some of the most striking golf scenery any of us had experienced.

The weather could not have been better, and with a comfortable pace of play, we were able to fully appreciate both the golf and the setting. By the end of the round, there was a unanimous feeling that Scarecrow had delivered a special experience and was a worthy companion to its more established sibling course.

After golf, we returned to the Barn Restaurant for lunch, ordering a pepperoni pizza along with a barbecue platter featuring ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and a variety of sides. The food was excellent and made for a fitting conclusion to our time at Gamble Sands.

With lunch complete, we loaded up the truck and began the drive back to Twin Lakes. Once there, we said our goodbyes to Austin and Shane before they headed their separate ways. I made a quick run into town for a few supplies and picked up dinner for Jacob and me before returning to the condo.

Now, as the sun sets over Twin Lakes Village, we are settling in for the night. Tomorrow comes early with a 4:30 AM departure for the airport. Like so many good trips, this one feels as though it ended too soon. We all wish we had another day or two, but at the same time we recognize that these short adventures are often the ones that leave the strongest memories.

This was another memory in the making—time spent with family, great golf, good food, plenty of laughter, and the simple satisfaction of sharing an experience together. There will be more adventures ahead. For now, it’s time to get some sleep before the alarm rings long before dawn..
